EventsINTIMATE ENCOUNTERS FILM SERIES
A country with a fabulously rich cultural heritage, extreme social contrasts and astounding ethnic and linguistic diversity, India has long held a fascination for Western artists. This collection of incisive, intimate and poetic films, poised between documentary, reportage and travel diary, presents a range of personal encounters by Western filmmakers. Allowing the camera simply to record, avoiding didactic commentary, making direct connection with their subjects, the filmmakers place the viewer in a position akin to that of a participant. Capturing the travails and rituals of everyday life, this collection of films shows how the rhythm of India can become the rhythm of documentary. MY STREET - ABC RADIO NATIONAL PROJECT - CALL FOR ENTRIES
My Street is a User Generated Content project about your street. To be launched in June 2008, we will be asking pool contributors and the ABC Radio National audience to produce content in video, audio, slide shows, photos, text or any combination. A select few that are either audio only or are video with audio that can stand alone will be chosen for broadcast on Street Stories. Street Stories producers will also be giving feedback about each My Street piece on pool. Every street in Australia has a tale to tell because there are so many different individuals living in them; the curious characters who hide behind the blinds, the children who play on the street, the elderly people who tend their front gardens or the parents who parade up and down with their prams. In up to 5 minutes of audio or video or via photos, a slide show or text we want you to record and then shape a story that will capture the imagination of our listeners, it might be about one person, or a group of neighbours or a stranger in the street, drama on the footpath or quietness behind the closed walls of a home. It could be reportage, oral history, soundscape, videoscape, vox pops or any other genre of media production. You can use interviews, sounds, your own voice as commentary, graphics, footage, photos and anything else you can create with a microphone, camera, tape recorder, video camera or keyboard. So, be inventive and tell us about the wonders or disasters of your street. Due to copyright restrictions we cannot broadcast an item on our radio programs or on our websites, which includes commercially published music, or excerpts from commercially released films and or soundtracks. But please don’t let this limit your imagination. [W] www.pool.org.au
